Canterbury strip club The Bing to be demolished if flats plan is approved tonight

The fate of a city strip club is to be decided tonight – with relocation the likely outcome.
Plans to bulldoze The Bing in Dover Street are set for approval, with the building’s owner hoping to build 20 apartments on the site.
Father-and-son team Ralph and Alastair Noel run the Bing and have 22 years remaining on their 25-year lease.
They have previously indicated they have a new venue “not a million miles away” – and may hope to extend their opening hours.
Ralph told the Gazette: “The developer is not forcing us out.
“Should he gain planning permission, he is giving us the opportunity to explore many options.
“If he doesn’t get planning permission, then he has been discussing the idea of expanding the venue. Either way, it’s a very exciting time for us.”
Award-winning architect Guy Hollaway has been appointed to design two eye-catching brick-fronted blocks to house 20 apartments on the site.
Planning officers have recommended the council’s planning committee grants permission when the plans are considered next week.
The Bing opened in autumn 2013 despite objections from neighbours.
Ralph has said previously that the club has operated without complaint – a fact he hopes will carry sway with the city council if and when he applies for a licence for a new premises.
He said: “We have caused no problems for local residents, and I hope that will be in our favour and have some clout with the council.”
Tonight's planning meeting at The Guildhall, Canterbury, will start at 6.30pm.
