Hundreds of roof tiles have been stolen from locations in Canterbury and Chartham.

Two hundred grey tiles were taken from a crate in Canterbury Christ Church University in North Holmes Road, just after midnight on Saturday, August 4.

A man was seen loading the materials into a vehicle before driving off.

He is described as white, aged between 45 and 50, about 5ft 11in, bald and unshaven. He was wearing a high vis jacket and was missing three front teeth.

The second incident happened between 1.45am and 2.45am on Friday (August 10), when about 100 slate tiles were stolen from a building under renovation in Shalmsford Street, Chartham.

Two men were seen in the garden of the property earlier that evening. They were described as white and aged between 20 and 30.

One was of a slim build with brown hair and a beard, and a tattoo on his left calf. The other was described as medium build with cropped hair.

Although police are not linking the two thefts, they are asking people to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

Sergeant Colette Todd said: "We are asking the public to be aware that thieves are operating in the area and urge people to report any suspicious vehicles or people by phoning 101 or 999 if a crime is in progress.

"We would also like to hear from anyone who witnessed the two thefts or who has since been offered tiles for sale."

Anyone with information is asked to phone police on 01843 222289 quoting reference ZY/46698/18 for the Canterbury theft or ZY/46664/18 for the Chartham theft.

Alternatively, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers in Kent anonymously on 0800 555111.
