Police have released three images of men they want to speak to after a “violent” burglary at a jewellers.

Officers were called to Canterbury Jewellers and Pawnbrokers in St Peter’s Street at about 4am on Friday.

A large amount of jewellery was stolen from the store, with the family-run business saying it has been forced to temporarily close after suffering a “substantial loss of stock”.

A statement from the owners continued: “As some of you may be aware, we were unfortunate enough to be the victims of a violent break-in, during the early hours of this morning.

“Thankfully no one was hurt and despite a lot of irreparable damage and a substantial loss of stock we would like to assure everyone that no customer repairs or pawnbroking has been affected.

“At this time we ask for everyone to be patient with us as we assess the damage and try to make progress to ensure we can reopen.

“Thank you for your patience and kindness.”

A police spokesman added: “Detectives investigating the burglary want to identify and speak to the three men pictured in the CCTV images, as they may have information which could assist inquiries.”

Well-wishers on social media have rallied around the company, which has operated in the city for more than 20 years.

Offering condolences, Emma Dale said: “What a sad world we live in, so sorry for you all.”

The firm, which values and buys jewels and precious metals from the public, has been contacted for comment.
