Canterbury and Folkestone named UK’s sunniest spots

Two Kent towns have come out on top in a list of the UK’s sunniest spots.

Canterbury had the most sunshine last year, with 1,675.21 hours.

In second was Folkestone, which was graced with 1,632.76 hours of rays.

The list - compiled by Betfair Bingo - includes the top 10 spots across the UK.

Gathering data from 33 weather stations, Canterbury also ranked as the fourth sunniest location over the past 10 years.

Folkestone just pipped it for third over the past decade.

In the 2023 list, Hastings in East Sussex was third with 1,632.76 hours followed by Basildon and Chelmsford, both in Essex.

Another Kent destination also made the list, with Gravesend coming seventh with 1,582.23 hours.

It comes at Kent is experiencing a particularly hot week, with temperatures reaching 27 degrees.

The heatwave is expected to come to an abrupt end, as a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms is in place from noon tomorrow (Wednesday).

The Met Office says there could be isolated flooding and disruption.
