A new restaurant offering "relaxed dining and drinking with a touch of timeless glamour" is set to launch its first-ever Kent branch.

Cosy Club will be opening the “majestic” venue in the former Closs & Hamblin store in Canterbury city centre on Tuesday, August 16.

The 160-seat restaurant in St Margaret’s Street - which will become a rival for the newly-launched Socialite just a few doors down - has long been on the radar of bosses at the chain.

They say the city’s allure and its strong retail offering made Canterbury an attractive location to launch a new eatery.

“We had a unique opportunity to secure this wonderful four-storey double-fronted site and bring our eccentric style and fresh, modern menu to Canterbury,” the company states.

“With all-day menus featuring fresh and modern classics, extensive brunch, gluten-free and vegan menus, there is something for everyone and we are proud of every dish.”

Cosy Club already has 31 branches across the country following its first launch in 2010, but it does not yet have a presence in Kent.

The restaurant chain describes itself as offering "relaxed dining and drinking with a touch of timeless glamour".

It offers breakfast, lunch and dinner menus - serving British, European and Asian dishes, as well as a bottomless brunch.

The impending launch comes at a time of a number of restaurant openings in the city.

Just this week, Chopstix noodle bar was granted permission to open in the former Claire’s store in the high street.

The long-standing accessories chain shut up shop this month but the prime unit next McDonald’s is due to be filled quickly.

Chopstix describes itself as the “largest Asian-inspired quick-serve restaurant in the UK”.

Meanwhile, Latin American chain Las Iguanas has been given the go-ahead to add its branding and signage to the former Café Rouge unit in Longmarket.

It paves the way for the new restaurant to open next to Côte Brasserie and an O2 Shop.
