Canterbury man arrested on suspicion of sexual assault in High Street and assaulting police officer

A man has been arrested after reportedly trying to kiss one woman before assaulting another.

Police attended the scene, where the man is said to have attacked an officer during his arrest.

The 51-year-old, from Canterbury, has been released pending further inquiries.

A police spokesman said: "We are investigating a report of an assault in Canterbury.

"It was reported a man approached and tried to kiss a woman, and shortly after a second woman was assaulted in the High Street at around 12.10am on Monday, April 22.

"Officers attended the scene and a 51-year-old man from Canterbury was arrested on suspicion of assault and sexual assault. He was also arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker."
