McDonald’s fans in Canterbury can get their fast food fix without leaving the house from Thursday as the restaurant giant launches a delivery service in the city.

The St George’s Street branch has teamed up with online app UberEATS to offer something it says its customers have been craving for two decades.

It has pledged to get its takeaways from door-to-door within 30 minutes so will initially only deliver to homes within one-and-a-half miles.

Business manager Sam Maxfield said: “For 20 years customers have been telling us they want us to deliver. This is really just a case of us giving them what they want.”

The delivery service will run from 8am to midnight daily.

Customers will enjoy restaurant prices and will not be hampered by a minimum order fee, but will have to pay UberEATS a charge rumoured to be about £3.50.

The American delivery firm - which launches its app in the city on Thursday - travels by bicycle, foot or scooter.

Mr Maxfield suggests McDonald’s deliveries could be rolled out further afield to the company’s drive-thrus in Sturry Road and Chestfield.

“Without sounding non-committal, it could be an option in the future,” he said.

The St George’s Street restaurant recently underwent a modern-day makeover costing upwards of £1 million.

Mr Maxfield says the Sturry Road branch is set to undergo a similar re-fit in early January and will likely be shut for six weeks.
