Popular Margate New York-style Palms Pizzeria launching at Canterbury's Floc Brewery

A New York-style pizzeria offering enormous 20-inch pizzas is set to open next week.
Palms Pizzeria is launching alongside Floc Brewery on the Wincheap Industrial Estate in Canterbury, which has been operating a brewery and taproom in the city since 2021.
The firm confirmed the joint will open on Saturday, April 29 with the first 500 slices sold costing just £1.
The company's Margate pizzeria has been running for just over a year and has proved popular with locals, with their classic pepperoni, vegetarian-friendly pesto and broccoli and vegan options.
New York-style pizzas are known for their large size, thin base and flexibility, and as such are often eaten with the slice folded over to fit in the mouth.
Palms Pizzeria was launched by music manager Stuart Clarke and music promoter Josh Ward, who say their time spent putting together gigs in New York, and then grabbing a slice after, is what inspired them to bring the experience back home to Kent.
Stuart Clarke said: “Our pizza is really different to anything else that is available in Canterbury.
“We do New York-style pizza, each one is 20 inches across, we make all our dough fresh and finish them with nice high-end ingredients. It’s just really good.
“When we wanted to launch Margate we wanted to provide something that sat between that very cheap high street fast food market and the higher-end sit-down restaurant price bracket to offer a service in the middle there.
“So you are getting food at a reasonable price, that’s fast with very good ingredients, that’s relatively healthy and it’s big. A pizza of ours will really comfortably feed a family of four, two of our slices for an adult is a lot, it’s a big old pizza.
“We have a really good relationship with Floc, we sell a lot of their beer in Margate and we’ve been talking with them about this idea for a while now.
“We’re setting up a really lovely little spot in the existing space that they have there and for us it’s a really nice little launching pad into Canterbury. It’s really exciting, it feels like a good fit and they are good people.”
Alongside the existing Margate branch and the soon to be Canterbury restaurant, the brand has confirmed it is looking into opening another establishment in Ramsgate this summer.
The chain is hoping to attract a variety of customers, with promises to deliver a family-friendly experience in the day, before transforming into a night out pit-stop offering shots while customers wait for their food.
The pizzeria's bosses feel they have succeeded in bucking the business downturn trend, which has seen many eateries close their doors over the past year.
Co-founder Stuart Clarke said: “Last year more than 1 in 20 businesses in our industry said they plan to cut trading by at least two days per week to reduce energy costs, so we know we’ll have to work hard.
“But the feedback we’ve had in Margate and the friends we’ve made since opening our doors has inspired us to keep going.”
Palms Pizzeria opens at Floc Brewery next Saturday and will then be open alongside the tap room every Friday and Saturday.
