Ryan Lawford had a disappointing end to the weekend after crashing his Ford

The opening round of the Monster Energy MSA British Rallycross Championship was staged at Lydden on Saturday.

Londoner Ollie O’Donovan made a winning return to the championship in his Ford Focus Supercar.

O’Donovan led to the first corner and edged away from the battle for second between Andy Scott and Julian Godfrey. It was all change behind the leader though when Godfrey spun and Scott’s Peugeot suffered a puncture.

Aylesbury’s Steve Hill took second but then himself encountered a problem after the bonnet of his Mitsubishi Lancer came loose and opened against the windscreen. He struggled on to finish in fifth.

Former Kent racer Pat Doran made the most of the carnage to take second while Steve Mundy rose to third.

Canterbury’s Ryan Lawford was taking part in the event but his race ended early after being unable to avoid a car which spun infront of him, forcing him into retiring after a shunt.

Supercar 1 Result: Ollie O’Donovan (Ford Focus); 2 Pat Doran (Citroën Xsara); 3 Steve Mundy (Ford Focus); 4 Andy Grant (Ford Focus); 5 Steve Hill (Mitsubishi Lancer E 10); 6 Steve Harris (Citroën C4); 7 Andy Scott (Peugeot 306); 8 Julian Godfrey (Ford Fiesta VI).
