Paedophile James Todd arrives at court

A jobless musician who looked at child porn on his girlfriend’s computer had a pang of conscience and handed himself into Canterbury police station.

City magistrates heard James Todd, 36, who has convictions for flashing and voyeurism, had saved 13 images of girls in their early teens on the computer.

Prosecutor Julie Farbrace told the court the images were at the lowest level of seriousness.

She said: “He went into the police station and told front counter staff that he had been accessing indecent images of children on his girlfriend’s computer.

“He said he had done this last year. The computer was checked and the images were found to be of girls of around 13 years old.

The order was granted at Canterbury Magistrates' Court

“He has two previous matters of voyeurism and one of exposure and has been given a Sexual Offences Prevention order in the past.”

Todd, of Station Road West, admitted one charge of making indecent photographs of a child in September.

James Ross, defending, said Todd suffers from Asperger’s Syndrome and had been abused when he was younger.

“This is quite an unusual matter and the single most aggravating feature is the previous convictions,” Mr Ross told the bench.

“The matter would never have come to court were it not for the fact that he walked into the police station and unburdened his conscience.

“No one is in any doubt as to how serious these matters are, but what we are talking about is 13 images.

“His talents lie in music, but he has Asperger’s and was the victim of abuse. These two factors have given him this curiosity as it were and which has manifested itself in these incidents.”

Todd will be sentenced on August 5.

He was released on bail with conditions not to use any computer or device capable of accessing the internet and not to engage in any activities which might attract children, including busking.
