Pensioner injured after cyclist collision in St Mary's Street, Canterbury

An elderly pedestrian was injured and had to be taken to hospital after a collision with a teenage cyclist on Friday.

The incident happened around 5.12pm along St Mary's Street, Canterbury, where it is believed a teenage cyclist hit the pensioner before cycling off.

According to an eyewitness, the pedestrian was an elderly man who is believed to have been visiting the city with his family.

"A group of four young kids hurtled the wrong way down St Mary's St, C'by, and smashed into a man, visiting the city with his family.

"The kids were abusive to the various adults who tried to stop them, and rode off."

"Two emergency vehicles - police and ambulance - were called and he was taken to hospital."

A police spokesman said: "We were called at 5.12pm on Friday, September 1 following a collision involving a teenage cyclist and an elderly pedestrian.

"The cyclist is alleged to have left the scene with two friends following the incident, which resulted in the man being taken to a local hospital with chest injuries.

"Enquiries into the incident are ongoing."
