KENT’S Chief Constable Mike Fuller has pledged to track down the man who hurled racist abuse at Marlowe panto star Sheila Ferguson.

Mr Fuller, Britain’s first black chief constable, said his officers were determined to catch the offender who shouted at Ms Ferguson during a performance of Cinderella.

Last week the Kentish Gazette exclusively revealed that a member of the audience had yelled: "We don’t want n*****s in Canterbury."

Mr Fuller told BBC Radio Kent: "We are actively pursuing the case in terms of inquiries being made and we are looking to identify the offender. The force tackles race crime robustly."

Police have taken a statement from the former Three Degrees singer and I’m a Celebrity star about the incident on December 2.

A man in his late 20s or early 30s made the remarks as Ms Ferguson, who plays the Fairy Godmother, walked on to the stage. He is thought to have been in a group of three men, one of whom was wearing a leather jacket.
