Police officer ‘bitten on hand by e-bike rider’ in Canterbury city centre

An electric bike rider bit an officer on the hand, as they tried to get away from police.

The reported incident happened in Canterbury City Centre at the junction of St George's Street and Canterbury Lane on August 31.

Officers were speaking to electric bike users about the law surrounding their use when one attempted to ride away from them and was arrested on suspicion of obstructing a police officer.

During the arrest, the officer was reportedly bitten on the hand.

A 17-year-old boy was taken into custody and later bailed pending further enquiries.

Police are now appealing for information.

A police spokesman added: “A 17-year-old boy was taken into custody and later bailed pending further enquiries.

“Police believe a number of people may have witnessed the incident and recorded footage on their phones, but have yet to speak to officers.
