A computer disc containing information relating to an ongoing police investigation was "misplaced" by an officer near a school.
Parents of pupils at Simon Langton Girls' Grammar were urged to ask their children if they had found a CD in Old Dover Road, Canterbury.
An email was sent yesterday to parents by the school, saying: "We have been asked to send this email on behalf of Kent Police.
"Please can you ask your child if they had seen/found a disc (CD) in Old Dover Road today, Monday, October 11.
"If anyone has found the disc or has any information about the disc being found in the area, please call 101 to report this."
It is understood the girls' grammar was the only school contacted by police.
A spokesperson for the force said: "On the afternoon of Monday, October 11, a police officer misplaced a computer disc in the Old Dover Road area of Canterbury.
"The disc was subsequently recovered and had not been accessed.
"The disc contained information relating to an ongoing investigation."
