A long-running takeaway in the heart of Canterbury will close for the final time in a matter of days, it has been announced.

Pork & Co is to bow out of the city on Sunday following the expiration of its lease.

The firm has expanded its portfolio in east Kent in recent years, yet bosses have decided to scale back and call time on its original restaurant.

The Sun Street eatery, known for its pulled pork, shifted its focus from serving sit-down customers to dishing out takeaways in 2020.

It has also been involved in food festivals in the city, and opened branches in Thanet and Whitstable.

"After 13 years in various guises we must move on.

"We would like to thank all our loyal followers for their love and support over the years."

Pork & Co's owner, Sam Deeson, was approached by KentOnline but declined to comment.

The firm's other branches are set to remain in operation.

"We will also be attending many more events, festivals and shows and you never know, you may even see us pop up on a high street near to you in the future."

Sunday will mark the last day for the eatery in Sun Street.

Disappointed regulars shared their sadness to the news on social media, with one posting: "Best place to eat in Canterbury, gone but not forgotten."

Another added: "So sad to see you go. You've been an absolute institution for the people of Canterbury."

Pork & Co's other Kent locations are in Whitstable's South Quay Shed, Broadstairs high street and Margate.
