Power blackout cuts off supplies to hundreds

Twenty-three homes are still without power following blackouts in the Whitstable area on Wednesday afternoon.

More than 1,000 residents around the town were cut off this lunchtime, following the first interuption at 12.49pm.

EDF Energy Networks engineers were able to restore supplies to all but about 500 customers by 1.14pm anda further 322 regained power by 2.54pm. Another 155 were then reconnected at 3.06pm.

The fault has been put down to a problem on EDF’s underground electricity network.

EDF have apologised to customers for the inconvenience caused.
