This is the dramatic moment a puppy was rescued after being trapped down a 30ft hole in woodland near Chartham for four days.

The owners' other dog found the young red setter/labrador cross, called Brody, after hearing him whimpering. But he was so far down, he could not be seen.

Firefighters, called shortly after 5.30pm on Wednesday, used a new all-terrain vehicle to cross a ploughed field off Mystole Lane.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service's Deal-based line rescue team set up a pulley system and used specialist equipment to go into the hole and put a harness around Brody to bring him to the surface.

His owners Charles and Doreen Willson, who first feared he had been stolen, were delighted and relieved to get him back

Mr Willson said: "He was a rescue dog and we've only had him for a short while, so we were devastated when he went missing.

"We are thrilled and incredibly grateful to Kent Fire and Rescue Service for helping us get him back.

"We've taken him to the vet who said he's fine and just needs a good meal or two and a rest. But he's very happy to be home."
