Ray Turner wants Faversham Town to toughen up

Ray Turner has demanded his Faversham players toughen up after slipping to a 3-0 defeat at Eastbourne in Ryman League Division 1 South on Tuesday.

The Town boss saw his side leak goals far too easily as his hopes of ending the month without defeat ended abruptly.

"It was a long trip for nothing," said Turner. "We are too soft at the moment when we go behind. We concede goals in twos and threes rather than just one and making sure we stay in the game.

"The games are quickly out of sight. We need to be tougher because we are making it hard for ourselves."

Turner added: "Defensively we were poor and we gave all three goals to them. Our goalkeeper had only one save to make over the 90 minutes and it was poor from us defensively. In the end, though, we got what we deserved.

"I was surprised about how we defended because the centre halves are usually consistent but Eastbourne won everything .

Turner added: "We were flying at the start of Tuesday’s game which is not surprising after Saturday. We wanted to build on what we had done and finish the month unbeaten which would have been nice."

The FA Cup dominates this weekend but Town’s defeat to Carshalton in the first qualifying round leaves them without a fixture.

They return to action in Ryman League, Division 1 South on Tuesday night when they entertain Crawley Down – a side sitting bottom without a win.
