His ears are still raw and his whiskers still singed but Robbie the cat looks like he has a few of his nine lives left.

The black and white moggy is well on the road to recovery at Broadway Veterinary Group in Herne Bay.

He was discovered last month in Canterbury by the RSPCA with horrific burns to his face and paws.

It is thought he was sheltering in a dumped sofa which was set on fire.

Believed to be about six months old, Robbie is still having his bandages changed regularly and vets think he might need skin grafts on his face.

But thanks to treatment of four pain killers and cream applied to his injuries around the clock, Robbie’s fur has started to grow back and his appetite has not waned.

Veterinary nurse Tara Blagden said: “It is looking really good. His face and feet are healing nicely.

“He is still having his bandages changed but he is getting there.”

The centre is collecting donations for the cost of Robbie’s care, which is being paid for by the RSPCA’s Canterbury branch.

The bill is expected to be in the region of £4,000.
