A SCOOTER rider died this morning following a road accident in the centre of Canterbury.

The tragedy happened shortly before 7.30am in Military Road which is the main A28 through the city.

The road was closed for more than three hours, causing gridlock, while police carried out an accident investigation at the scene.

The rider, who has not yet been named, is believed to be aged in his early twenties.
