A motorcyclist is fighting for his life in hospital after a serious crash.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the 38-year-old man from Canterbury suffered severe head injuries.

He came off his black Suzuki VS800 in Stone Street, Petham at 7.15am yesterday, but it not clear why.

It is the same road where biker Benji Stone, 25, was killed in a crash with two cars last month.

No other vehicles were thought have been involved in the most recent crash, but officers want to know how it happened.

The man was airlifted to the specialist head injury unit at King's College Hospital in London, where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

Emergency crews including police, four ambulances, firefighters and officers from the serious collision investigation unit were called.

The road was closed between Chequers Hill and Redhouse Lane for seven hours, and traffic was diverted through the village.
