Canterbury World Cup couple divided over England v Sweden

The rallying cries of three lions will be matched by shouts for "Sverige" as a village pub roots for both teams in today's quarter final crunch match.

Mark Abbott and his Swedish partner Anna Svensson moved to Westbere nine years ago to take on the county's oldest pub, Ye Olde Yew Tree.

Now, in a divided household the popular hostelry is split down the middle with flags for each country covering the Inn.

Mark says although the rivalry will be light hearted they have each predicted their side to win: "I think it will be 2-1 to England and Anna thinks it will be 1-0 to Sweden although really she has been here so long she feels English and I will be supporting Sweden if we go out," he said

The couple's two young daughters are also divided with seven-year-old Alice taking her father's side and four-year-old Ellen rooting for the Scandis. The pub is usually more of a foodie place but the special match will see the game being played and a BBQ for hungry punters.

On Tuesday pubs across England went berserk as Gareth Southgate's side made it through to the quarter final.

In a typical heart-stopping display captain Harry Kane scored from the spot before Colombia equalised in the final seconds, forcing the match into extra time.

It looked as if it would be the same old story for England as penalties loomed but due to goalkeeper, Pickford's heroics the young lions won their first shoot-out in World Cup history.

In a more formal affair Sweden beat Switzerland 1-0. The winning side will face wither Croatia or Russia on Wednesday.
