Drivers faced delays and gridlock on Friday evening, after two separate crashes closed two Canterbury roads.
The first happened in New Dover Road at 3.40pm.
Police and ambulance crews raced to the scene, followed by firefighters when concerns were raised about smoke pouring from one of the cars.
One driver is thought to have suffered facial injuries and suspected neck injuries.
He was taken to hospital along with three other people with injuries described as "minor".
New Dover Road was closed between St Lawrence Road and Lower Chantry Lane.
Traffic built up in the area until 6pm, when the road was re-opened.
Shortly after the crash, a number of vehicles collided on the A28 Island Road in Hersden.
Police rushed to the scene, and the road was cordoned off near Claremont Way.
Kent Highways warned drivers to find alternative routes.
