Canterbury men charged with human trafficking and prostitution offences after concerns for woman

Two men have been charged with human trafficking and prostitution offences following concerns for a woman.

It comes after police were contacted about fears for the welfare of a person at a home in the Thanington area of Canterbury.

Giovani Gabriel Popa, 28, of Godwin Road, was charged on Friday with forcing a person into labour and arranging travel with a view to exploitation.

He was also charged with false imprisonment with the intention of human trafficking and inciting prostitution for gain.

Constantin-Bogdan Rosu, 29, of Thanington Road, was charged with false imprisonment with the intention of human trafficking and arranging travel with a view to exploitation.

He was also charged with inciting prostitution for gain and forcing a person into labour.

Police were contacted about concerns for a woman at the home in the city last Wednesday.

Both men appeared at Folkestone Magistrates' Court on Saturday and were remanded in custody.

The case will next be heard at Canterbury Crown Court on November 28.
