Whitstable Town boss Peter Nott insists the club can’t relax yet despite putting distance between themselves and the relegation places with victory over Chatham Town last weekend.

The Oystermen now sit six points ahead of Chatham, who occupy the second and final relegation place in Ryman League Division 1 South after their 2-1 win over the Medway side on Saturday.

Nott (pictured) said: "That was a big, big win and gives us a bit of breathing space – but the job is not done yet. We still need two wins from our last four to guarantee our safety.

"We don’t want to be sweating on the last day fixtures, we want it all put to bed early so we’ll be looking for another three points this weekend."

The win over Chatham was dramatic. The 17th minute dismissal of James Peacock for violent conduct was followed by Kane Rice’s goal on the hour for the visitors, leaving Whitstable with an uphill task.

"That could have killed us off but credit to the players," said Nott. "You do think ‘Have we got the character to come back from this?’ but the players showed plenty it."

Substitute Gareth Cornhill levelled the scores with 10 minutes left and Dan Wisker won it moments later.

While Nott was delighted with the win, he was less pleased with the way Peacock got himself sent-off for retaliating to a tackle from Chatham’s Anthony Hogg.

Peacock remains available for this weekend’s trip to Eastbourne Town but that will be his last match after he was handed a five-game ban, which starts on Saturday, April 23.
