Police directed after a car careered off the road and ploughed into a building in Canterbury.

The black Volkswagen Lupo crashed into the wall of an empty shop in Cow Lane on the Wincheap Industrial Estate, opposite the former Adscene building.

No one was hurt in the smash, which happened at the former site of RAC Auto Windscreens.

Chris Bray, who is owner of the Cricket and Hockey Store next door, said he heard a "loud bang".

He continued: "We all went outside and saw the car had gone into the wall of one of the units.

"I'm not sure what happened, but it's a good thing there was no one inside the building at the time."

A police spokesman said: "Police were called at 13.34 on Thursday, May 1 following reports a car had crashed into a building in Cow Lane, Canterbury.

"No-one was injured and structural engineers were called to make the building safe. The car was recovered at 16.11."
