A WOMAN found dead in toilets at St Martin's Hospital in Canterbury is believed to have died from a heroin overdose.

An inquest has been opened into the death 41-year-old Laura Watterson, whose body was discovered in the men's toilets in the main hospital building on August 31.

A hospital spokesman said Miss Watterson, of Magpie Hall Road, Stubbs Cross, Ashford, was not a patient at the mental health unit. It is understood that Miss Watterson, who was formerly known as Laura Gurley, entered the hospital on the night of August 31 with two other people.

The emergency services were called after being alerted to the incident and a police investigation was conducted.

The inquiry has now been referred to the coroner and a full inquest will be held at a future date.
