A woman struck by a train last night suffered injuries not thought to life-threatening, police have confirmed.

Emergency crews were called to St Dunstan's Street, Canterbury, following reports of a casualty on the tracks shortly after 8pm.

A number of patrol cars, fire engines and ambulances were at the scene, and the road was shut off.

Rail operator Southeastern tweeted to say a person had been struck by a train, and services were halted between Ashford and Minster.

This morning British Transport Police confirmed the woman had thankfully survived the incident.

A spokesman said: "We were called at 8.10pm to reports of a casualty on the tracks on the railway line near Canterbury West station.

"A woman was taken to hospital with serious, but not believed to be life-threatening, injuries.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious."
