Two men in their 20s were taken to hospital after they were reportedly assaulted near the junction with St Margaret's Street.

Four people were later arrested in connection with the incident.

However, a police spokesman has since confirmed that three people - including two Canterbury men aged 19 and 22, along with a 25-year-old woman - have all been released on bail until June 20 pending further enquiries.

Meanwhile, Callum Gabbitas was charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent and a public order offence.

The 21-year-old, of Bramshaw Road in Canterbury, remains in custody and is due to appear before Folkestone magistrates today.

Detectives are still urging anyone who witnessed the incident - or the moments leading up to it - to call them on 01843 222289, quoting the reference number 46/87639/21.

Alternatively, they can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously by calling 0800 555 111.
