Appeal after boy dies in road accident

KENT Police are appealing for witnesses after a 16-year-old boy died in a collision with a car.

The tragedy happened on the A28 at Chartham, near Canterbury. It is believed the boy was walking along the road towards Canterbury when he was struck near the Stour Valley Industrial Estate at about 1.45am on Saturday. He died at the scene.

The victim, who has not yet been named, came from the Canterbury area.

The driver of the Renault Clio car, a 19-year-old man from Ashford, stopped after the collision. He was not injured.

The road was closed for five hours while officers from Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit carried out an investigation at the scene. Traffic coming towards Canterbury was diverted towards Shalmsford Street and vehicles heading towards Ashford were diverted at the Milton Manor roundabout to Cockering Road.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the collision or who saw the boy walking along the road to contact Sgt Guy Ditcher or PC Andy Gallon on 01622 798538.
