The Archbishop of Canterbury has demanded the wife of an American diplomat who was involved in a crash which killed a teenager be extradited to the UK to be quizzed by police.
Harry Dunn, 19, was riding a motorbike in Northamptonshire on August 27 when he was hit in a head-on crash.
Since returning to the US, Anne Sacoolas has admitted she was driving on the wrong side of the road.
Now, Justin Welby has intervened in the ongoing dispute over diplomatic immunity and has written a letter to the US ambassador Robert Wood Johnson, saying Mrs Sacoolas should return to the UK to allow a "full and proper investigation".
The 63-year-old sent the message from his official residence at Lambeth Palace on October 8, but has reportedly yet to receive a reply.
A spokesman for the Archbishop told the Daily Mail: "The Archbishop has written to the US ambassador Robert Wood Johnson asking him to reconsider the diplomatic immunity.
"He would like Mrs Sacoolas to return so a full and proper investigation can be carried out."
