Artist's mission to revive saucy seaside postcards

An artist is on a mission to bring saucy postcards back to Whitstable this summer.

Peter Gander, 46, from Station Road, Herne Bay, hopes to bring back a seaside tradition with the cards.

They are deliberately tongue-in-cheek, featuring lithe young women and portly couples eating fish and chips in the true tradition of seaside sauce.

The father-of-two said: “Postcards are going out of fashion, with more people sending texts and I want to bring back some fun.”

The postcards are available in independent outlets around the town, including Taking the Plunge, Sundae Sundae, and Keam’s Yard.

Prints of the original paintings are available at The Framing Shop.
