A group of men armed with axes and snooker cues have been involved in a violent confrontation near a supermarket.
Witnesses said it happened in the car park area behind Waitrose at St George’s Place, Canterbury, this evening.
A bystander, who did not want to be named, said he had seen a group of young men with some wielding axes and snooker cues.
He told KentOnline: “I was driving into the store car park and I had to swerve to avoid what was happening.
“But I could see about six men there, some clearly quite young.
“Two of them were brandishing axes and a couple of them had snooker cues.
“I saw one guy laying on the ground as if he was injured but if he was I don’t know exactly how.
“The police came, there were a good few police cars and they cordoned off the area.
“I don’t know if they were able to catch anybody involved there and then.
“It attracted quite a lot of attention.”
At least one ambulance was seen attending the incident and other bystanders said a car was damaged in the fracas.
A police spokesman said: “Kent Police was called to a report of a disturbance involving a group of people at around 6.10pm.
“Officers attended the scene and the group had already dispersed.
“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances.”
