Cash, cigarettes and a baseball bat seized after police stop Ford Focus on at A2, near Barham, Canterbury, in organised crime crackdown

Cash, cigarettes and a baseball bat have been seized by police during work to tackle organised crime.

Officers on patrol on the A2 near Barham, Canterbury, saw a Ford Focus being driven in a suspicious manner shortly before 10.30pm on Monday night.

The car was stopped and searched and officers seized around £5,000 in cash, 10,000 cigarettes and a baseball bat.

The driver was unable to explain how he came by the items and he was arrested on suspicion of money laundering.

A subsequent search of a property in the Canterbury area led to a further £12,000 in cash and 200 pouches of tobacco being seized.

The 21-year-old man who was arrested remains in custody while enquiries to establish the full circumstances continue.
