A Kent pensioner is facing up to two years in a Ugandan prison after police found photos of him having sex with another man.

Bernard Randall, who lives in Conyer near Teynham, pleaded not guilty to charges of "trafficking obscene publications" in a Ugandan court.

The 65-year-old will stand trial on Monday in the African nation, where homosexuality is illegal.

Thieves broke into the house where Bernard was staying while on holiday and stole a laptop with the images, which were later given to a tabloid newspaper.

Broadcaster Stephen Fry and others have pledged their support for Bernard and a Facebook page has been set up with almost 700 supporters.

A petition called Bring Bernard Home has also been set up.

In 2011, gay rights activist David Kato was beaten to death in Uganda, but police denied it was because of his sexuality.
