If you go down to the woods today you could be in for a big surprise. And a very unpleasant one.

A rogue dog walker is taking delight in annoying his neighbours by hanging bags of dog mess from tree branches and gates.

Now a £100 reward is being offered through the Neighbourhood Watch scheme at Rough Common, Canterbury, to track down the antisocial pooper scooper.

An incensed member has been disposing of the bags regularly found in the RSPB woods around Kent College. The reward for information is highlighted in the latest edition of the scheme’s newsletter.

Co-ordinator Colin Chaston said: “This is obviously a very unpleasant practice by someone who seems prepared to pick up his dog’s poo and put it in a bag but then, unbelievably, leaves the bags hanging from trees and gates.

“One of our members has got so fed up with disposing of them that he has offered a reward to try and identify the offender.

“It is obviously a very irresponsible thing to do.

“It may be that the landowner, the RSPB, might even then ban them from walking in their woods in future.”

He is also warning dog walkers that they could be banned from the Kent College field if they don’t clean up because of complaints from parents about their children treading in dog muck while playing rugby.
