Big Quiz round sponsors John Payne of Larkings and Martyn Barr of Impact PR and Whitefriars shopping mall with Dee Murphy from the KM charity team
The waiting is finally over and the Canterbury Big Quiz is upon us, with 60 teams lined up to take part in the showcase event tonight (May 1).
And many of the world's best-known drinks brands have lent their support to what has become a major charity event on Canterbury's calendar.
Leading soft drink manufacturers Coca Cola and Britvic will be keeping quiz goers refreshed as they tackle brain-teasing questions, after agreeing to donate stock for the event.
Coca Cola is the biggest-selling soft drink in history and the firm’s range includes other favourites such as Sprite, Fanta and Dr Pepper.
Britvic produces some of Britain’s best-loved drinks including Pepsi, Robinsons and Tango.
The soft drinks’ donation complements the sponsorship of the Big Quiz offered by Scottish and Newcastle UK (S&N UK), the country’s leading brewer and cider producer.
Best-selling brands include Fosters, Heineken, Strongbow and John Smiths, with the latter lending its legendary No Nonsense slogan to promote the event.
S&N UK has agreed to back No Nonsense Charity Bars at each of the four Big Quiz events due to be staged in 2009.
The causes that will benefit from the Canterbury Big Quiz are the League of Friends of Kent and Canterbury Hospital, Kent Kids’ Miles of Smiles, the Lady Mayoresses’s Charity Appeal and children’s road safety charity, Kent Walking Bus.
Big Quiz event organiser Simon Dolby said: “We are very grateful that the top names in the soft drinks business, Coca Cola and Britvic have agreed to back our four Big Quiz events. Everyone benefits, as Big Quiz goers will be kept refreshed throughout the event and extra funds will pour into our highly deserving charities.”
As well as Kent University, other top name sponsors of the Canterbury Big Quiz 2009 are P&O Ferries, Parry Law, Independent Music Productions and Barclays Bank.
