A blind man was threatened and robbed as he stood waiting for a train at Selling railway station.

The 57-year-old victim is believed to have been robbed at knifepoint as he stood alone on the platform. British Transport Police are now hoping to speak to anyone who might have witnessed the robbery around 10.30am on Thursday, January 6.

Det Sgt Leigh Marshall said: “The victim was approached by a man who he described as smelling strongly.

“Suddenly, the man produced what the victim understood to be a knife, holding it to his cheek whilst demanding money.

“As the victim explained that he did not have anything to give him, the man moved the knife to his throat then to his cheek again.

“The suspect took a small amount of change, but returned it when the victim told him it was his train fare. The suspect then proceeded to search through the man’s bag and took between £7 and £10 in change.”

A 24-year-old man, from the Medway area, has been arrested and is currently on bail pending further enquiries.
