Man’s body found near University of Kent campus in Canterbury

A man’s body has been found in woods close to a university campus.

Police were called to woodland near the University of Kent in Canterbury this morning after the tragic discovery.

Emergency services arrived but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is understood the discovery was made near the Canterbury Innovation Centre which is a University of Kent building.

A police spokesman said: “We were called following a report that the body of a man had been found near University Road, Canterbury at 7.15am today.

“Emergency services attended and the man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

“His next of kin have been informed.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner.”

Police were first spotted early this morning and they were later joined at the scene by a private ambulance, witnesses said.

No further details about the incident have been confirmed by the authorities.

A University of Kent spokesman said: “This is distressing news for all in our university community and we express our sincere condolences to all those affected by this morning's events.

“We are supporting the police in their inquiries.”
