A teenager was allegedly robbed at knifepoint by a man who claimed to be a cab driver.
The 18-year-old is thought to have been duped into following a man who claimed he was taking him to his taxi.
Instead, after leading the victim into St Gregory's Road, close to the junction of North Holmes Road, he produced a knife and forced the teenager to hand over cash.
The incident happened in the early hours of Friday morning.
Police detective sergeant Heidi Collins said: "The victim had been out with friends and was trying to find a taxi to take him home.
"While he was in the St George’s Street/Canterbury Lane area of the city, a man approached him claiming to have a taxi.
"The victim followed the man to St Gregory’s Road where the man produced a small knife and demanded the victim hand over his money.
"The offender then left the scene, heading on foot back towards the city centre."
The robber is described as white, of a skinny build, aged between 16 and 20, about 6 ft 1 ins tall.
He was wearing dark-coloured trousers and shoes and a dark-coloured coat with the hood up.
DS Collins said: "We are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or who recognises the description of the offender."
