Stuart Vahid celebrated his Whitstable debut with Sunday’s winner in the 1-0 victory at Burgess Hill to give new manager Mark Munday the perfect start.

Vahid, formerly with Deal, took his chance with a glancing header from a cross from fellow debut-maker Dan Dolton, who moved to Belmont from Ramsgate in the close-season.

Whitstable’s hero, however, was goalkeeper Kevin Fewell, pictured, who produced a series of outstanding saves to foil the home side as the Oystermen rode their luck.

Whitstable open their home campaign against Ryman League Division 1 South title favourites Croydon on Wednesday. Kick-off is 7.45pm.
