Around 100 cannabis plants were found when police raided a house in Canterbury on Wednesday.

Officers swooped on the property in Old Park Avenue where they found plants being grown in greenhouse conditions.

Last Wednesday, a raid on a house in Fordwich Road revealed 150 plants, worth £4,000, being cultivated in a similar way, although it is not known if the incidents are linked.

In the latest case, police were alerted by the landlord of the privately-rented house.

Officers who are specially trained in search techniques were at the house for several hours in the morning and used a skip to remove the plants and equipment.

Nobody was at the property which appeared to be unoccupied.

Supt Chris Hogben said: “Increasingly properties are being rented or bought with the sole purpose of using them to cultivate cannabis.

“This is the situation across the country. To find two properties in Canterbury in such close proximity within a week is, however, fairly unusual.

“I would appeal to anyone who notices unusual comings and goings at neighbouring properties, lights left on when the property is uninhabited, and windows obscured, to contact police immediately.”
