The challenge of ‘Hellfire Corner’ awaits when Canterbury Rugby Club visit Redruth for one of their toughest tests of the season on Saturday.
The city club travel to Cornwall looking to end the hosts’ 100% start to the National League 2 South season and Canterbury head coach Andy Pratt (pictured) warned: "It’s a difficult place to go and get anything.
"The lads are aware of the challenge and we’ll prepare accordingly.
"They love their rugby down in Cornwall and don’t like teams from other parts of the country going there and beating them.
"Redruth is a real rugby hotspot. There’s even a part of the pitch called ‘Hellfire Corner’ which is where a lot of the more vociferous supporters congregate.
"Redruth like to pin teams down there and make it tough to get out. Whatever happens, it’ll be a fantastic experience for our boys."
Canterbury are in good form themselves – having won their last three games – but they were given a scare at the weekend when Chinnor clawed back a 21-0 deficit before missing a last-gasp conversion that would have snatched the points.
Pratt was puzzled by his side’s implosion and wants them to learn from it ahead of the Redruth match.
He said: "We’ve looked back at the video and it seems we got sloppy in certain areas and we’ll need to learn from that.
"I don’t mean it to sound disrespectful to Chinnor but it almost felt like a defeat at the end."
