Canterbury opener Matt Jenkinson sweeps during his knock of 61 against Ashford
Canterbury clambered out of the bottom two in the Shepherd Neame Kent League first division on Saturday – but only just. They achieved a winning draw in their relegation showdown with Ashford at Polo Farm after starting the match six points adrift of the visitors.
Matt Jenkinson (61) and Donald Carter (52) provided the foundation for Canterbury’s total of 228-6, but they were then frustrated in their bid to achieve a crucial 20-point victory by Shannon Fattore (87) as Ashford finished on 196-8.
St Lawrence & Highland Court scored a 63-run success in their Premier Division mid-table battle with Bexley.
Charlie Hemphrey was the architect of their victory, scoring 109, with 10 4s and two 6s, out of a total of 224-8. Dominic Chambers, Luke Rumbelow, Alistair Neale and Oliver Durell all picked up two wickets as Bexley were removed for 161.
