Civil servant by day, ghost hunter
by night, John Hippisley knows all about things that go bump in the
night.

The 45-year-old, who lives in
Harbledown, has been combining humour, history and hauntings on his
tours for 18 years.

John said he first saw a ghost when
he was 13 at school in Goudhurst, and following several
supernatural sightings soon afterwards, decided to put his hobby to
the test and dedicate his life to the dark side.

Spotting a gap in the market, John
started the Canterbury Ghost Tour in 1995. After years of
researching the area, digging through archives and following up the
legends of local residents he was ready to share supernatural
stories with the inquisitive public.

John (pictured left) said: “I love sharing the
chilling history of Canterbury with people, whether they are
believers or not.

“Over the years the tours have
really built up to become a must-see nightly attraction.

“I can’t guarantee that we will see
ghosts but we certainly give people a flavour of the city. If you
do see something it is a real bonus.

“We have a fair few ghosts in
Canterbury and St Margaret’s Street, where we start the tour, is
allegedly the most haunted street in Kent.

“The tours are about entertaining people and they are different
every night."
