A 16-year-old girl was seriously hurt when she was involved in a collision with a car in Canterbury on Tuesday evening.

The accident happened at 8.20pm in Sturry Road near its junction with Starle Close.

The girl, who lives in the Canterbury area, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital in Margate with head injuries, which are said to be life-threatening. She was on foot when the collision happened with a red Rover car driven by a 24-year-old man from Canterbury, who was not hurt.

Sturry Road was closed until 1am on Wednesday and traffic was diverted around the scene to allow investigations by Kent Police's serious collision investigation unit.
