An entertaining game failed to produce a winner as Canterbury women were held to a goalless draw by fellow high-flyers Leicester on Saturday.
The sides went into the game separated by just a point in the Investec Women’s Hockey League Premier Division, with third-placed Canterbury knowing victory would take them above Leicester into second place.
However, the visitors could have taken the lead inside three minutes when they were awarded a penalty which Crista Cullen missed.
Canterbury battled hard to get back into the game and they played their part in what developed into an absorbing contest.
There was nothing between the sides at full-time and Canterbury’s first draw of the league season means they are now eight points behind leaders Reading.
