Canterbury skipper Michael Farrer insists his squad is relaxed ahead of their crucial penultimate game showdown with second-bottom Southgate, which could determine their play-off fate in National Premier Division.

The city club occupy a top-four spot only on goal-difference and just three points separates second and sixth with two games to go.

Canterbury slipped to fourth after a 3-2 home defeat to top-four rivals East Grinstead on Saturday and are now level on points with Cannock, who suffered a shock home defeat to Hampstead & Westminster, and a point ahead of EGs with just two games to play.

Farrer (pictured) said: "Obviously it was disappointing to lose, but even though the results haven’t necessarily followed, the performances in the last couple of weeks have returned to where they were earlier in the season. It bodes well for the final two games."

Cannock face EGs on Saturday, while Canterbury host Southgate at 2pm, with an intriguing last-day clash between Cannock and Canterbury the following week.

Farrer added: "Southgate are lower than us in the table but having been where they are in previous seasons, we know they’ll be fighting to get out of there.

"We know they’re going to come out fighting but without being overconfident we are in a good position for a reason, we have kept the philosophy to keep trying to improve on every performance, and everyone is relaxed and confident we can get the result we want.

"We want to sign-off in our last home game with a resounding victory."
