Canterbury moved into second place in the England Hockey League Women’s Premier Division table with a 2-0 win over University of Birmingham at Polo Farm on Saturday.

Susannah Townsend and Natasha Brennan (pictured) scored twice in two minutes in the second half to complete the win, the students' first defeat of the season.

Canterbury’s better league position is courtesy of scoring one more goal than their opponents, with the two teams level on points and goal difference, one point behind leaders Leicester held to a 2-2 draw by Cannock.

Matthew Botha scored a hat-trick but finished on the losing side as Canterbury’s men lost 5-3 at unbeaten leaders Beeston.

They came from behind to lead 2-1 at half-time, but finished on the wrong end of an impressive individual goalscoring display by Samuel Ward who scored all the Nottinghamshire club’s goals.

Botha completed his treble to make it 3-3, but Beeston added two more in the final six minutes.
