Canterbury's men gave themselves every chance of reaching the finals of the Super Sixes National Indoor Hockey Championships Premier Division, losing just one of four games on the opening weekend in Bristol.

They suffered a 9-7 defeat in their opening game against Old Loughtonians but bounced back to beat Beeston 7-3 in game two on the opening day.

They scored seven for the third game in a row when they drew 7-7 against Surbiton on Sunday morning and also secured a point from a 10-10 epic against Bowdon in their final game of the weekend, with seven different players on target.

Kwan Browne scored in each game and ended with seven in the four ties, with Michael Farrer adding five goals and Ben Hare four.

Canterbury lie fifth at the mid-way stage, only outside of a top-four place by virtue of a single goal difference, but only three points clear of the relegation zone.

EuroCanterbury Ladies are well-placed for a spot in the Premier Division Finals after recording four wins in their opening weekend in Worcester.

Susie Rowe (pictured) fired a hat-trick as they opened with a 4-1 win over Chelmsford and trounced Trojans 8-1 in their second game on Saturday.

Sutton Coldfield were put to the sword 6-2 on Sunday morning before a Rowe hat-trick inspired a 4-3 win over Ipswich to round-off a fine weekend for the ladies.

Rowe scored 10 goals in her four appearances with Sarah Kerly finding the net four times.

Canterbury sit top of the Premier Division table courtesy of having scored more goals than Leicester, who have also won all four.

They will face the remaining four sides from the top five in the table next weekend, but need just seven points to guarantee a top-four place.

Both leagues resume on January 8.
